Founded in 1951 by the visionary Late Shri Jagadish Chandra Khandai, KITAB MAHAL began as a humble bookstore serving the students of Ravenshaw College.

With extraordinary dedication, Shri Khandai personally travelled every weekend to Kolkata (then Calcutta) to source academic books. In his absence, trusted students from the college often managed the store—reflecting the deep relationships and trust that became the foundation of the brand.
